Traditional Catholic Prayers In Latin

Latin is the universal language of the church.  It is important for us as Catholics to learn these prayers, and even more so to teach them to our children.  Without the knowledge and proper education of the traditional, conservative teachings of our faith it will be doomed to moral relativism and protestantisation with the next generation.  This is our responsibility as the primary teachers of our children.  Thankfully the truths of our Catholic faith are still retained in bastions of conservative traditionalism.  For those of you who doubt the relevance of Latin in the context of the “modern church”, I dug up a quote or two from “modern” resources attesting to the importance of Latin in the Catholic church:

“The use of the Latin language … is to be preserved in the Latin rites.”  Second Vatican Council, Sacrosanctum Concilium
(Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy), para. 36.1

“In accordance with the age-old tradition of the Latin rite, the Latin language is to be retained by clerics in the Divine Office.”
Second Vatican Council, Sacrosanctum Concilium
(Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy), para. 101.1

That’s right folks even the “dreaded” Second Vatican Council recognized the relevancy and importance of the Latin language as part of our faith.

Pater Noster (Our Father)

Pater Noster,
qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen tuum.
Adveniat regnum tuum.
Fiat voluntas tua,
sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie,
et dimitte nobis debita nostra
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem,
sed libera nos a malo.
Amen.

Ave Maria (Hail Mary)images-1

Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen.

Signum Crucis (The Sign of the Cross)

In nomine Patris, et Filii,
et Spiritus Sancti.
Amen.

Gloria Patri (Glory Be to the Father)

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper,
et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.
