The Ascension of Our Lord…

Following the Rogation Days this week (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) we celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord on Thursday! The Feast of The Ascension is the commemoration of the Our Lord’s ascension into heaven following his resurrection. Traditionally this feast has been a Holy Day of Obligation within the Church and celebrated on the 40th day after Easter, though it has been moved to the following Sunday throughout most of the United States.

Forty days after the Resurrection, our Lord Jesus Christ, attended by Angels, ascended into heaven, in the sight of His most holy Mother, His Apostles, and disciples, to the great wonder of them all.

Saint Paul declares that God “hath made us sit together in the heavenly places, through Christ Jesus.” “There where the Head has gone, the Body is called to follow!”

If your local parish does not hold a formal commemoration of the Ascension this Thursday it is a fine family tradition to dedicate some time to our Lord on this day in prayer and meditation on the traditional readings of this feast (Acts 1.1-11 and Mark 16.14-20).

  2. So glad you speak of our Catholic heritage: ” Rogation Days “. Thanks ! I’ll bet many have never heard of them and most who have don’t know what they are. We all should learn about them and parents should teach their children. We need to grow in the knowledge of our faith and the love of our Lord.
