I wrote a while back about our battle with thistles on the homestead. One of my strategies for dealing with them on a small scale had been sheet mulch. We started the first section of the transformation of the front “lawn” last fall, so I thought I would share with you guys what we’ve learned and what we were able to accomplish….
We made some adjustments for phase two based on some observations and we’re hoping to optimize the system with the temporary addition of a giant blue tarp….

I just found your blog and as a Traditional Catholic and new Homesteader, I am loving your posts. We are in northern Idaho and up here we are battling Spotted Knapweed, I mean really, really battling. It just laughed at our garden mulching! I’ll be sure to share anything that works for us.
Glad you found us! I’d love to hear from you guys, and good luck on the knapweed! We need to share as much as we can what works and what doesn’t…virtual community is still community after all! This stuff is important…we are not alone 🙂
